Following an interview on Channel NewsAsia's Insight programme with US Secretary of State John Kerry, SMU School of Social Science Associate Professor of Political Science John Donaldson was invited to share his views on various topics such as President Obama’s strategy in Asia, the key issues that he needs to focus in the final months of his term, as well as the role of the United States Congress. On the legacy of President Obama’s ‘Pivot to Asia’ policy, Associate Prof Donaldson said: “Part of this is not Obama’s fault. No matter what happens, the Middle East is always going to be an issue, and it is going to require one of the most precious commodities in the world which is presidential attention.” He also highlighted that the two things that the President really have to focus on is the South China Sea and the issue in North Korea.
