Co-curricular activities (CCA), at both recreational and competitive levels, are supported mainly by student clubs, while customised excellence programmes - whether in the arts or sports - are pursued through the support of the Office of Student Life (OSL). Special interests, including debating, animal welfare advocacy and community service, broaden students' interests and allow them to play a bigger role in society.
Under the banner of community leadership, OSL works closely with student leadership groups to organise university-wide events such as Convocation, Freshmen Teambuilding Camps, Patron's Day, Arts Festival and SMU Peace Day. Another thrust of the community leadership platform is the Building Communities programme where students are empowered to initiate projects working with overseas communities in addressing social and environmental concerns.
Opportunities abound for a rich and fulfilling student life at SMU. Students will find it a challenge balancing studies, career planning and pursuing CCA interests. Student life at SMU is exciting, vibrant and diverse.
