What is Social Science?
Social Science, broadly speaking, provides an understanding of how the world works using social and behavioural explanations.
In contrast to the natural sciences (biology, chemistry, physics) which focus primarily on natural phenomena (stem cells, molecules, light waves), the subject of social science is society itself. Social scientists use empirical research methods to investigate all sorts of interpersonal and intrapersonal behaviour, from why people fall in love to why people commit crimes. It is an exciting field of study that enables governments and organizations to gain insight into how people behave.

What is SMU Core?
SMU Core* equips students with analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as soft skills.

AWARD OF THE BSocSc DEGREE
The BSocSc is a four-year meritorious honours programme. However, many students can expect to complete the programme in less than four years with advanced standing or fast-tracking by taking some courses in the third term. Students with advanced standing may be granted credits of up to eight courses. On successful completion of the BSocSc programme, students will be awarded the BSocSc degree accordingly, depending on their overall performance: BSocSc cum laude (with distinction), BSocSc magna cum laude (with high distinction) or BSocSc summa cum laude (with highest distinction).
