Commenting on the perceptions of marriage, SMU Professor of Sociology and Dean of Students Paulin Straughan highlighted how young adults continue to value the importance of getting married and building families. She equates the delay in marriage with how people do a lot of preparation for other things in life. Similarly, marriage preparation is this pre socialisation which ensures that the young adults are not jumping into an area of life where there is so much at stake, and which they lack the skills to succeed. Hence, many are afraid of getting married or enter into relationships until much later.
