A paper published in 2017 by SMU Associate Professor of Political Science John Donaldson, Associate Dean (Research) and Associate Professor of Sociology Forrest Zhang and Zhanping Hu found that only two out of 50 Chinese rural cooperatives he visited and tracked from 2009 to 2016 were genuine.
