In a commentary, SMU Assistant Professor of Sociology Yasmin Ortiga explored the current issues facing Philippines’ export of talents. Some of the risks include the inability to cater to and anticipate the needs of employers across borders and the role of higher education in society. Assistant Prof Ortiga highlighted the cost of prioritising global needs in local classrooms and also the public role of higher education as a setting for critical thinking and human talent, beyond the production of future workers.
