In a commentary, SMU Associate Professor of Science, Technology, and Society Winston Chow discussed the geographical, technological and economic challenges Singapore faces in reaching net-zero carbon emissions, which he believes will bring considerable benefits. He added, “The Government cannot do it alone; the private sector must be active partners in ensuring this sustainable transformation occurs through implementing new low-carbon technologies and practices throughout Singapore.” Assoc Prof Chow also cited SMU Connexion as an example of how sustainable design and construction elements can be emulated by private sector actors in the building and construction industry, and widely implemented to decouple emissions from development.
