SMU School of Social Sciences undergraduate and three-time Paralympic gold-medallist Yip Pin Xiu has been nominated for the 2016 ST Athlete of the year award. In the Rio Paralympics last September, Pin Xiu smashed her own world records en route to winning the S2 50m and 100m backstroke events, which saw her become the first Singaporean - Paralympian or Olympian - to win two gold medals at a single Games. In a special feature with The Straits Times, she spoke about how she overcame some of her toughest moment achieve tremendous success in 2016.
