In an interview, SMU Dean of School of Social Sciences and Lee Kong Chian Chair Professor of Political Science Chandran Kukathas discusses the challenges and implications faced when protecting specific cultural traditions. He opined that while it is good to recognise societal diversity, it is difficult to argue in favour of creating cultural accommodations to preserve and protect specific groups. Prof Kukathas is the author of Hayek and Modern Liberalism (1989) and The Liberal Archipelago (2003). His next book, Immigration and Freedom, will be published by Princeton University Press.
