Director of SMU Wee Kim Wee Centre and Associate Professor of Arts and Culture Management (Practice) Kwok Kian Chow arranged for Xu Fangfang, daughter of renowned Chinese painter Xu Beihong (1895-1953), to visit the latter’s art studio at Jiangxia Hall in early May this year, prior to the building’s demolition for redevelopment. Xu Beihong stayed in Jiangxia Hall during his several visits to Singapore and produced numerous important paintings while staying there. During her visit to Singapore in early May, Prof Kwok also co-organised with the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre and the National Gallery Singapore for Xu Fangfang to give talks at the two venues on topics related to her father.
