In the Straits Times’ The Usual Place podcast, SMU Assistant Professor of Sociology (Education) George Wong said that the Maju Forest and Gillman Barracks debate is a refreshing progression in Singapore society as residents felt like they had a say on these developments. He noted that people were motivated to speak out about these issues because Maju Forest and Gillman Barracks were spaces that Singaporeans care for as a reminder of a kind of Singapore that existed.
