Commenting on funding for charity healthcare organisations, SMU Dean of Students and Professor of Sociology Paulin Straughan highlighted that in order for such organisations to continue serving the society, they need to rely heavily on the public’s trust as well as build up their reputation. Prof Straughan said, “Some have disguised themselves as representatives of charity organisations, to pester passers-by into donating, and this has affected the trust that society has towards such organisations.” She added that Singaporeans are in fact enthusiastic about charity and suggested that these organisations look into revamping their donation models to improve awareness.
