SMU Dean of Students and Professor of Sociology (Practice) Paulin Straughan said the recent summit meeting between the Presidents of the US and North Korea was a great opportunity for Singapore to show what the nation can achieve and brought the country to the attention of the world. Prof Straughan was watching coverage of the summit while visiting the US and said Singapore is now better known overseas as a safe, reliable and secure place and has an important role to play. The summit also seems to have raised interest in the culture of Singapore and she feels the country is now better understood globally. She added that Singapore’s success in hosting the summit made her very proud to be Singaporean.
