On the Ministry for Social and Family Development’s concerns over the legalising of social egg freezing, SMU Dean of Students and Professor of Sociology (Practice) Paulin Straughan said the wider context is a societal conversation about "values and what constitutes as a family". Prof Straughan said, “The rights of the child is an important start. It's very difficult for a child growing up and asking questions like who his birth father is. We should address the root causes of the problem: Why is it so difficult for young people to find a life partner?"
