In the Usual Place podcast, SMU Assistant Professor of Psychology Kenneth Tan shared that when it comes to dating, there is definitely a need for certain experiences and people to guide you through. Asst Prof Tan mentioned that it is extremely pressurising to find the correct partner, as evaluating a person becomes more like a job interview than experiencing the person for who they really are. He noted that people might have hypothetical ideas of their perfect partner; however, there is a disconnect between what one ideally wants and those they end up with.
