SMU School of Social Sciences Associate Professor of English Literature and Director of the Wee Kim Wee Centre at SMU Kirpal Singh was profiled in a special feature. He was described as a multi-talented man who is a writer of poetry and short stories, literary critic, an editor, a researcher, a lecturer and teacher of creative thinking. Associate Prof Singh has published 8 books, mostly poetry, end edited more than 25 publications. He is also a sough-after speaker at conferences held in different countries on various topics. He holds the views that a writer can be quite lonely in Singapore because there is no time for in-depth discussions. As a writer his job is to educate people to think metaphorically, to think across boundaries and cultural frames. He hopes there will be more exchanges of opinions among writers from different cultures
