SMU Dean of Students and Professor of Sociology Paulin Straughan shared her views on the trend of single women travelling overseas to freeze their eggs in the hope of prolonging their fertility. She cautioned against sending the wrong message to women that pregnancy in later years can be safe just because their eggs can be frozen. Prof Straughan also highlighted the consequences of giving birth at a later age as that can result in their children shouldering the burden of looking after their elderly parents when they are only in their twenties.
