On Budget 2020, SMU Dean of Students and Professor of Sociology (Practice) Paulin Straughan urged the government to delay raising the Goods and Services Tax (GST), to 2022. She suggests reassessing Singaporeans' needs, and opined that there is no rush to announce the details of the support package. Prof Straughan noted that the GST impacts Singaporeans most directly. As Singaporeans are already stressed with the Covid-19 outbreak, the government would do well to reassure everyone that the GST would not be raised before 2022.
