Commenting on the reasons less Singaporean men are marrying foreigners in the past decade, SMU Dean of Students and Professor of Sociology (Practice) Paulin Straughan said, "I suspect women from these traditional sources of foreign brides may have alternative means of seeking their life partners, so perhaps fewer are willing to come as foreign brides." She added that with the significant number of transnational marriages here, there will be more bicultural families and children with bicultural roots. Prof Straughan also pointed out that Singapore does not allow dual citizenship, and the debate on this issue may resurface as more Singaporeans marry foreigners.
