Commenting on the issue of a low proportion of socio-economically disadvantaged students outperforming other students, SMU Dean of Students and Professor of Sociology (Practice) Paulin Straughan suggested that communities can do more in levelling the difference. For instance, “the less well-to-do families should be able to place their children or send their children to community centres, where a similar kind of induction and resources are available”, without them having to pay high prices.
