From August this year, SMU will offer a new academic major in Politics, Law and Economics (PLE). The Bachelor of Social Science’s PLE programme will provide students with an understanding of the way politics, law and economics intersect to shape the world. SMU School of Social Sciences Dean Professor James Tang said "In a globalised world full of uncertainties, interdisciplinary knowledge and analytical skills are crucial for the future success of our younger generation. This new major aims to broaden students’ minds and to provide them with the necessary tools to analyse major public issues, on top of allowing them to gain a better understanding of the challenges of our inter-connected world." Additionally, SMU will also introduce a new Entrepreneurship major in August where students can take up modules such as social entrepreneurship, design thinking and innovation, and technological entrepreneurship. Through these new programmes, SMU hopes to provide more developmental pathways to its students and enhance their flexibility and versatility in the workplace.
