The study, “Continuity, History, and Identity: Why Bongbong Marcos Won the 2022 Philippine Presidential Elections", published on 1 March in Pacific Affairs, analysed the Marcos family's return to power in the Philippines. It is co-authored by SMU Assistant Professor of Political Science Dean Dulay and two other academics. The researchers found that respondents were likely to support Bongbong Marcos, and determined the factors for Bongbong Marcos/Sara Duterte's ticket win in a landslide. From a broader perspective, the findings illuminate how historical legacies shape democratic backsliding.
