SMU Professor of Sociology (Practice) and Dean of Students, Paulin Straughan, appeared in the programme Icons That Made Us to share her insights on the profound impact of advertisements in Singapore. She highlighted how advertisements go beyond selling products to shape social norms and inspire positive behaviours, such as saving money. By featuring familiar faces and relatable messages, ads promote cultural understanding and inspire positive change. Prof Straughan said, “A very good ad doesn’t just sell, it encourages you to embrace a different norm.”
