In a commentary, Dr Noeleen Heyzer, Distinguished Fellow, SMU School of Social Sciences and Lee Kong Chian Distinguished Fellow, and a member of the United Nations’ Secretary General’s High Level Advisory Board on mediation, discussed the situation in Myanmar and the urgency for regional nations to mediate the crisis. She urged for Asean to quickly mobilise its most-effective mediation abilities to prevent Myanmar from descending into a full-scale protracted crisis and even civil war.
