Vanessa Paranjothy, a social sciences graduate from SMU and co-founder of Freedom Cups, was working as a human resources executive when she heard about menstrual cups from a friend who had returned from an internship with a non-profit organization in Guatemala in 2012. Realising the potential, they had to help empower women and improve feminine hygiene sanitation in developing countries, she quit her job to concentrate on building the business. She hopes to champion a change in the way women face menstruation issues around the world. Since they began in 2015, Freedom Cups has distributed 3,000 cups to underprivileged women in Singapore and around the world.
