Commenting on the unrealistic body images being projected by the mass media, SMU Dean of Students and Professor of Sociology (Practice) Paulin Straughan remarked that generally, if advertisements are promoting plus sized clothings, then it should be fine to showcase "plus sized models". According to Prof Straughan, the US has already avoided the use of “skinny” models in their advertisements in recent years. More importantly, the choice of models should fit the advertisers’ needs. She highlighted that there should not be any stereotypes tagged to the size of models.
