Commenting on private galleries and the unique part of Singaporean culture that they exhibit, SMU Associate Professor of Theatre/Performance Studies (Practice) Margaret Chan – who teaches museum management – shared that most of these galleries originated from private collections. She explained that the National Museum represents the official meaning behind our heritage and national identity, but that we still have enough room for other meaningful collections – and private galleries play this role. She added that, to maintain their uniqueness, these museums should be allowed freedom, and that the government could consider setting up National Arts Council equivalent type of agencies to promote and provide support for these galleries.Commenting on private galleries and the unique part of Singaporean culture that they exhibit, SMU Associate Professor of Theatre/Performance Studies (Practice) Margaret Chan – who teaches museum management – shared that most of these galleries originated from private collections.
