As part of an SMU Arts & Cultural Management industry project, SMU student Jesslyn Lim recently conducted a qualitative survey about parents’ attitudes towards, awareness of and attendance of children’s arts festivals in Singapore. The survey revealed that children’s festivals have attendance rates of 15 to 50 per cent, amongst the 26 parents surveyed. “Whilst actual attendance numbers for these festivals are in the hundreds of thousands, the survey results raised the question of whether more can be done in terms of audience development, seeing as there are many more potential audience members whom these organisations have not yet been able to reach,” said Ms Lim.
