The cover of One: The Anthology boasts the phrase "Short stories from Singapore's best authors", a clearly suicidal claim for the creators of a book with a limited number of pages. But editor Robert Yeo rather neatly accounts for featuring only 21 names, including his own, in a foreword that places the book as a continuation of Singapore Short Stories, a similar anthology in two volumes, which he edited for Heinemann in 1978.
