SMU Assistant Professor of Political Science Jacob Ricks said, “Rice farmers and their families are among the largest groups that could be reached through a single policy intervention. Farmers and their families still make up over 30 per cent of Thai voters, so they will continue to be important.” He added, “The military regime has also tried to win farmers over with a series of policies, although they have met with limited success in convincing farmers."
