Discussing the silver economy, SMU Director of Centre for Research on Successful Ageing (ROSA) and Professor of Sociology (Practice) Paulin Straughan noted that many businesses in Singapore have not yet adapted to demographic changes. They still need to tap into the potential of the silver economy, comprising mature and loyal customers. Prof Straughan emphasised that the silver sector is a growing industry and suggested Singapore could also attract older tourists. She recommended offering buffets at senior citizen prices, similar to discounts for children.
