Ivy Lau, assistant professor of psychology from the School of Social Sciences, gave her views on the behaviour of the rioters who recently ravaged London. According to her, conformity pressure can sometimes get the better of people and warp their personal judgment in certain situations. Being in a crowd also makes people less identifiable and hence, they may feel less accountable for their actions.
