On the rising trend of single females seeking artificial fertilisation and becoming single mothers, SMU Dean of Students and Professor of Sociology (Practice) Paulin Straughan commented that this trend is not expected to fully disappear in the foreseeable future. She said, "Women now have greater expectations of what constitutes a good life partner, compared with a few decades ago. With their biological clocks ticking away, those who have the means and who cannot wait any longer (for a partner to live and grow a family with) may decide to find alternative options."
