Three participants in the SMU School of Social Sciences’ European Union Politics course discussed the value of what they had learnt from the programme. Sarah, Jun Jie and Ryan said they initially had only a vague knowledge of the founding principles of the EU; after their studies, they say they understand the strengths and weaknesses of the European model. Ryan and Jun Jie spent six months in an EU university (one in Dublin, and the other in Gutenberg, Sweden) as part of an exchange programme. Sarah also spent a week in Brussels in April taking part in the SMU-X Political Science Study Mission led by former SMU Assistant Professor Clara Portela. All three hope to continue their studies in or to work in Europe.
