Speaking as a panellist at a webinar organised by Income on what it takes to age successfully, SMU Dean of Students and Professor of Sociology (Practice) Paulin Straughan, who is also Director of the SMU Centre for Research on Successful Ageing, emphasised the importance of cultivating meaningful ties with family and the community. Sharing a final piece of advice on ageing successfully, Prof Straughan added, “It is up to each and every one of us to define what is the prime of our lives and embrace our potential to strive for our own future. But just like any journey that you take, ageing is a very carefully curated process – you need to plan and prepare for this phase of your life well if you want it to be a golden one.”
