In an interview, SMU Professor of Sociology (Practice) and Director of Centre for Research on Successful Ageing (ROSA) Paulin Straughan discussed how people must rethink the meaning of retirement in light of a super-aged society. Prof Straughan argued that it is important for people to anchor themselves on the premise that there cannot be a one-size-fits-all. According to the needs of different subgroups, society can consider ways to re-engage mature workers in roles where they can shine and rethink how to make meaningful use of such labour who have rich experiences. This could be done by leveraging technology and identifying new opportunities for engagement for older adults.
