Commenting on Singapore’s ranking on the World Bank’s Human Capital Index, SMU Dean of Students and Professor of Sociology (Practice) Paulin Tay Straughan noted that with Singapore topping the ranks, it shows that the basic needs are met fully. This gives the next generation a good and stable platform to grow and start families. With Singapore taking pride in our great education system and public health achievements, it has landed us a good standing. She added that this is only the beginning and that for the next 50 years we need to pay attention to issues like employability, uncertain futures and quality of life.
