A new report on youth delinquency has found that more young people have been involved in drug abuse and sexual offences over the past five years. In an interview, SMU Dean of Students and Professor of Sociology (Practice) Paulin Straughan discussed amongst others what can be done to tackle the upward trend in sex-related cases among youth offenders, the need to reframe youths’ mindsets when it comes to drug abuse, and if the existing initiatives are sufficiently equipped to address the most common mental health conditions among young offenders.
