The Art and Science of Rehabilitating Youth Offenders in Singapore
Abstract:
Dr. Chu Chi Meng will present the Risk-Need-Responsivity framework for offender rehabilitation that is adopted by juvenile justice agencies in Singapore. In particular, he will discuss how the framework has been implemented across Singapore. Furthermore, he will present some of the research studies on youth offenders in Singapore and how these are used to design policies and interventions to assist with the assessment and rehabilitation of youth offenders in Singapore. During the presentation, Chi Meng will also share some of the anecdotal experiences during his clinical forensic practice and illustrate the need to marry the art and science when managing these youth offenders.

Speaker:
Dr. Chu Chi Meng completed his Doctor of Clinical Psychology (Forensic Specialisation) at Monash University. He is a Senior Assistant Director at the Rehabilitation and Protection Group (Ministry of Social and Family Development [MSF]), where he heads the Centre for Research on Rehabilitation and Protection. In addition, Chi Meng is concurrently the Assistant Director of Forensic Health Services and the Principal Clinical and Forensic Psychologist at the Clinical and Forensic Psychology Branch (MSF). He is also a Research Affiliate with the Centre for Forensic Behavioural Science (Monash University) and is an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Department of Psychology (National University of Singapore).
