Topic: Contemporary Chinese Culture in an Intercultural World
多元文化语境下:华人文化的当代性

About the Forum:

Contemporary Chinese culture is a constellation of art forms, expressions and cultural practices associated with Chinese heritage and history, and interfaces with the diversity of values and articulations in a global intercultural context.  Contemporary Chinese culture is itself pluralistic and shares, if not overlaps, with other cultures the challenges of new technologies, media and programmatic channels, particularly in popular culture, contemporary art forms, the cultural and creative industries. Categories such as film and fashion are produced and presented through new global channels and platforms, and in constant dialogue with a multiplicity of aesthetic heritage, ideas and forms internationally.

The Forum on Contemporary Chinese Culture in An Intercultural World, jointly organised by the SMU School of Social Sciences, and the National Institute for Cultural Development and China Institute for Cultural Trade Research, which are research institutes of the Beijing International Studies University, is an affiliate programme of the Chinese Culture Week, Singapore, 9 – 13 September 2016. The forum facilitates an academic discussion on the historical and contemporary context of culture in relation to forms of international cultural trades and industries, and the characteristics, challenges and theoretical issues pertaining to cultural forms, expressions and materiality, in the contemporary global context.
