City Branding in a Regional Context: Experiences from China and Europe |
|
| |
|
Abstract:
The past decade has forced local governments around the world to place more emphasis on sustainable urbanization to keep attracting investors, corporations and talented workforce. The dream of promoting the economy and preserving the physical environment hinges on a belief in ecological modernization: higher added value and lower polluting emission through boosting the knowledge economy and phasing out the manufacturing economy.
Cities use place branding as one of the means to support this transition. How do they do this and how is this embedded in broader multi-level governance?
Empirical evidence from economically advanced regions in China and Europe is presented to throw light on this topic.
