To Regulate or Not to Regulate? Unique Benefits of Self-regulation and 'Letting Go of Control'
Abstract:
Self-regulation is important for learning and performing. I overview research that has used self-regulation theories and mixed methods (laboratory vs field contexts; statistical vs computational modelling) to understand the role of cognitive, motivational and affective processes in human functioning, including emerging work that considers the unique benefits of "letting go of control" for long-term development.
Dr Gillian Yeo is an Associate Professor at the UWA Business School and Deputy Head of the Management and Organisations Discipline group. Her core research relates to self-regulation. She examines how individuals regulate their motivation, emotions and cognitions over time in learning and performance contexts. She primarily focuses on these concepts at a micro level and applies theories and methods developed in the laboratory to field contexts. She has published in a variety of journals, including Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology and Journal of Management.
