Singapore’s total fertility rate has fallen to a historic low of 0.97. Citizens are not having enough children to sustain population numbers and all the money spent to encourage procreation does not seem to work. In a podcast interview, SMU Professor of Psychology Norman Li discussed what is causing the decline and why incentives are not working in improving the falling fertility rates in Singapore. He also shared his views on the impact of a developed country on fertility, and what else needs to change to encourage Singaporeans to have more children.
