SMU Provost Professor Lily Kong and Head of South Asian Studies Programme at NUS Professor Vineeta Sinha are the editors of the book Food, Foodways and Foodscapes, which introduces readers to food as a window to the social, economic, political and cultural history and geography of Singapore. Prof Kong and Prof Sinha decided to write the book, with food as its central theme, in commemoration of the nation’s 50th birthday. Prof Kong said that many areas in Singapore had undergone changes over the years, adding that the book provides an insight into Singapore’s history, culture and traditions as well as the transformation of the different areas.
